TAD/ Welfare to Work
Increase Your Skills and Job Opportunities
Forklift Drivers operate forklifts to move bulk materials, containers, crates, palletized goods, cartons and bales. Manually move freight with the use of machinery. Help in stocking materials and perform other general labor usually in a warehouse setting.
This is a one day training for 4-8 Hours. Material moving machine operators do the following:
Set up and inspect material moving equipment / Control equipment with levers, wheels, or foot pedals
Move material according to a plan or schedule / Make minor repairs to their equipment
Keep a record of the material they move and where they move it
In warehouses, most material moving machine operators use forklifts and conveyor belts. Wireless sensors and tags are increasingly used to keep track of merchandise, allowing operators to locate them faster.
There are three providers of this training in Ontario, San Bernardino and Victorville. All provide instruction, video presentations, safety and experience on the forklifts. OSHA authorizes the safety training and the student must pass identified competencies in order to be given the license to operate. The training is one day in length and continues at the place of employment. Each training facility has a list of employers and a job developer works with the students to be ready for the interview and where to look for jobs.
